DESCRIPTION

Do you like pickles, kimchi, and sauerkraut? Do you wish you could have delicious fermented snacks and condiments whenever you want? In this workshop, Karen Diggs, chef and fermentation expert, will walk you through the the steps of home fermentation. Each participant will create a custom blend of flavors and spices for their own batch of sauerkraut and take it home to share with their friends and family. Fermentation can also be an awesome tool for home cooks reduce food waste. Karen will show paricipants how fermentation can transform vegetable scraps usually destined for the compost pile or the garbage disposal into delicious foods.

This event will include snacks, non-alcoholic refreshments, and samples from KitchenTown’s makers. Wine, beer, and other fermented beverages will also be available for purchase. This workshop is appropriate for children ages twelve and up; all attendees must purchase a ticket.

ABOUT KAREN DIGGS
Karen Diggs is a Certified Nutritionist, classically trained chef, and Founder of Kraut Source. In addition, she is also a culinary instructor at Bauman College in Berkeley, CA. In 2014, Karen launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund Kraut Source (a nifty stainless steel fermentation device that fits onto Mason jars for small batch making of yummy superfoods such as sauerkraut, pickles, and kimchi). The Kickstarter was a success and now she is in business. Her main passion is to encourage everyone to start making their own live-cultured, fermented foods at home.

Karen is also the author of “Happy Foods” by Viva Editions. The book is a guide on using organic whole foods to boost mood and health.
